FAQs

Q   What is Eco Animal Bedding?

Eco Animal Bedding is 100% recycled, high quality, dust free cardboard and paper that has been processed into cardboard chips or paper strips. It is cost effective and simple to use. It is an environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional wood shavings and straw usually used for animal bedding. It is bio-degradable which is a must in today's eco conscious society.

Q   Is Eco Animal Bedding safe for animals?

Yes. Eco Animal Bedding is safe for animals including, but not limited to: horses, sheep, cattle, pigs, dogs, cats, poultry, turkeys, game birds such as ducks, geese, pheasants, llamas and alpacas. It is also safe for small pets such as rats, mice, ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, birds and parrots, as well as lizards and other reptiles. The cardboard is composed of cooked down (very short) wood fibres, held together by corn starch. It is totally benign to animal digestive systems and will not cause harm or impaction. This is backed by research from CSU, LSU and Texas A&M, along with 26 plus years of use in Europe and America.

Q   How does it work?

The corrugation has a surface tension, allowing urine to flow through to the bottom and then be absorbed from the bottom up. This greatly reduces ammonia levels in the stall or cage. Eco Animal Bedding holds up to three times its own weight in water.

  • depth of bedding you prefer
  • the habits of your animal
  • how often the stable is used
  • your own personal level of maintenance

Q   How long can I expect the initial setup to last?

Current trends indicate that a good 'first' bed is set up as per Eco Animal Bedding's recommendation, it should last anywhere between 30 to 45 days. This may vary due to the individual habits of owners and their animals.

Q   Why cardboard?

Eco Animal Bedding has been developed with leading vets, owners and trainers and has now been proven to have outstanding beneficial and therapeutic qualities.
Traditional materials (e.g. straw or shavings) contain various allergens. These may be particles of dust, chemicals, fungal spores, parasites, weed seeds, just to name a few. These particles when inhaled can cause emphysema or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD / heaves) and can lead to broken blood vessels, sinus problems and chronic coughs.
It is dust free, no more dust or particles clinging to your animals' coats or furs. The corrugation provides outstanding thermal insulation qualities enabling the animals to keep warm and dry. The corrugation also allows for superior cushioning ensuring the animals are comfortable.
